Cllr Emer Kelly says she's delighted to be the new Cathaoirleach of Athlone Municipal District in County Roscommon.
The Independent councillor, who topped the poll in Athlone in the last election, replaces outgoing Cathaoirleach Domnick Connolly.
Cllr Valerie Duffy of Fine Gael was selected as Leas Cathaoirleach, meaning it's the first time both roles have been held by women.
