The body of a man who died after an alleged attack in Co Leitrim will be returned to his native Latvia – after a fundraising appeal was successful.
Enough money has been raised for his repatriation and funeral.
Janis Balodis, 41, was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive at a house in Arderry, between Ballinamore and Carrigallen, last Thursday night.
Bartosz Cylka, aged 36, with an address at Arderry, Corrawaleen, was charged with his murder on Saturday.
The Polish native appeared in Carrick-on-Shannon District Court today, where his case was adjourned until next month.
Janis is originally from Latvia.
His family launched a fundraising appeal to try to get enough money to repatriate his body to Latvia and to hold his funeral there.
The estimated cost for all this was €4,600.
Janis’s sister, Inga Jakovleva, now says the amount required has been donated and has stood down the appeal.
She has sincerely thanked people for their generosity.
