Local TD strongly against plans to cut EU farming payments to pensioners

The next Common Agricultural Policy is currently being finalised and will take effect in 2028.

A local TD and the Agriculture Minister say they're strongly against plans to cut EU farming payments to pensioners.
The next Common Agricultural Policy is currently being finalised and will take effect in 2028.

It's proposed to cut payments to people who get the state pension or have an off-farm income.
Sinn Fein TD for Sligo-Leitrim, Martin Kenny, says it's unacceptable:

The EU proposes to exclude farmers who get a pension from direct CAP payments from 2032.
Agriculture Minister Martin Heydon says he's against this:
