A local TD is seeking a commitment that where new GP contracts are offered for tender, those who win the tenders commit to maintaining the existing surgeries that are already in place.
Longford-Westmeath TD Micheál Carrigy raised the issue in the Dáil this week with Culture Minister Patrick O'Donovan.
He says a contract is currently up for tender at a surgery in Lanesborough.
Deputy Carrigy says whoever wins the contract, a doctor needs to be in place to attend the surgery.
