A local TD says more Garda recruitment is not the solution to preventing crime in Co. Longford.
Fine Gael TD Micheál Carrigy's comments come following a double stabbing in the county town on Monday, during which two men suffered serious injuries.
The Irish Independent reports Gardaí are investigating whether a convicted criminal who recently returned to the country was behind the incident, which saw a Dublin-based gang arrive into the town.
There have been calls for Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan to come visit Longford Town over a 'worrying escalation' in violence.
