A local TD is seeking an urgent meeting with the Health Minister over the downgrading of maternity services at Portiuncula University Hospital. Sinn Féin's Claire Kerrane says the decision to widen the definition of 'high-risk' pregnancies at the hospital has caused widespread fear and worry. Deputy Kerrane had sought a debate in the Dáil after the HSE announced the changes prior to the summer recess. She is now calling on the Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill to meet with local public representatives. The Sinn Féin TD says it's unacceptable that expectant mothers cannot be offered reassurances.
