A local TD has called for double tracking and increased frequency of the Dublin-Sligo train route.
Speaking in the Dáil, Sligo-Leitrim TD Martin Kenny raised the lack of flexible train times reaching stations in the west of Ireland.
The last train to Sligo leaves from Dublin at 7:30pm, which the Sinn Féin TD says is detrimental for people who commute to college or work.
He is calling for double tracking at stations such as Mullingar to enhance the operation of the service.
