A local TD has called on the chairperson of Bord Bia to resign.
The comments come after Dawn Farms, a leading meat supplier, confirmed that Brazilian beef accounted for 1 per cent of its overall beef supply in 2025.
Its CEO Larry Murrin is also the Chairman of Bord Bia, whose remit is to market and promote Irish food and drink.
Farmers both locally and nationally have protested about the possible impact of the Mercosur trade deal.
If passed, it would see 99,000t of Mercosur beef, around 1.5 per cent of the EU’s beef consumption, come in at a cheaper tariff.
