Local students win big at World Junk Kouture finals in Monaco

Mary McNulty, Martha Nugent and Vanessa Kielty from Elphin Community College in County Roscommon won the STEAM Award together with Microsoft.

A group of local students have won big at the World Junk Kouture finals in Monaco. Mary McNulty, Martha Nugent and Vanessa Kielty from Elphin Community College in County Roscommon won the STEAM Award, Together with Microsoft.

The entries have to be manufactured from unwanted and recycled items, with the Elphin outfit, titled STEMinist being made up of medical tubing, a dissembled builders hat and rusted corrugated iron. Junk Kouture is also open to students across England, France, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, and the USA. Meanwhile, Moate Community School were crowned Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year.
