The government is considering banning under-16s from accessing social media.

A local senator is rejecting concerns about the impact a social media ban could have on children in rural Ireland.
The government is considering banning under-16s from accessing social media.

The Children's Rights Alliance is against the move, saying rural children would be particularly affected.
But Senator Ronan Mullen, from Ahascragh, Co Galway, says kids shouldn't be allowed to create a social media account:
