A local Fine Gael Senator says he opposes plans to not reduce student contribution fees in September.
Over the last three budgets, a cut of a thousand euro was applied to the contribution fee for students.
It was initially a temporary measure, but was made solid in the recent Programme for Government.
Minister for Further and Higher Education James Lawless has promised some measures to help students with grants, including a higher income threshold to qualify for them.
