A Longford Senator has registered his opposition towards plans for a new housing development in Edgeworthstown.
Fine Gael Senator Micheál Carrigy has confirmed that he has provided a submission to An Bord Pleanála questioning the suitability of plans to construct 100 houses at a site outside of the town.
John McCarthey applied to the higher planning body for the development at Bloomfield Park on the Bracklin Road, with the homes comprising of 50 houses and 50 apartments in multi-storey buildings.
According to Senator Carrigy, the project is 'wholly unsuitable' for the area, with smaller housing developments and a proposed primary care centre recently refused due to concerns of waste water treatment capacity.
Speaking to Shannonside FM this evening, the local Senator said while new development is welcome, it must be suitable for the town.
He says Edgeworthstown does not have the capacity to support the influx of new residents from this development:
