A local senator says disgraced former bishop Brendan Comiskey was a "very well-loved" and "lovable" person.
The former Bishop of the Ferns, who resigned following his failure to deal with allegations of abuse, died on Tuesday.
The Ferns report, published in 2005, identified more than 100 allegations of child sexual abuse in the Wexford-Wicklow Diocese between 1962 and 2002, against 21 priests.
It found Comiskey did not establish sound child protection measures at the time.
