Local minister says government working on overcrowding levels at Sligo hospital

A ten-year-review for the month of April shows overcrowding at Sligo University Hospital has come at its highest this year, with 903 patients waiting on trolleys in April 2026.

Last month was the worst April on record for overcrowding at Sligo University Hospital.
There's been a 31 per cent increase across the Shannonside region since 2016.

While Mullingar Hospital has seen a significant fall in overcrowding, with 49 recorded last month, an 86 per cent decrease since its highest levels ten years ago.
Minister and Fine Gael Sligo-Leitrim TD Frank Feighan says the government continues to work with the hospital to reduce the numbers:
