Local MEP says small farmers could lose funding under new Common Agricultural Policy

The European Commission has announced a 20 per cent drop in resources for the sector, as part of the 2 trillion euro budget for 2028 to 2034.

Castlerea MEP Luke 'Ming' Flanagan says small farmers in the Shannonside region could lose funding under the new Common Agricultural Policy. The European Commission has announced a 20 per cent drop in resources for the sector, as part of the 2 trillion euro budget for 2028 to 2034.

Farming groups have expressed concern over the plan, which will be finalised over the next two years. There were hopes small farmers would do better under the new policy - but Ming doesn't think that's the case:
