Local jobseeker facing 3 hour journey to travel 37km

Lack of transport a major barrier to employment according to the West of Ireland based frim.

A local recruitment company is highlighting a lack of public transport across the Shannonside region.

The issue is resulting in jobseekers declining work because they have no reliable method to get there.

Last week, a Castlerea native had to reject a healthcare role at a facility in Carrick-on-Shannon because there is no direct bus link from the two towns.

The only available route involved travelling to Claremorris in Co. Mayo then to Sligo town before arriving in Carrick-On-Shannon almost three and half hours later.

Katie Kilbaine of Excel Recruitment who is assisting the Roscommon native with her job search believes it's unacceptable the West and Midlands are left without an adequate service.
