Local hospitals under pressure following busy Bank Holiday weekend

Nationally, there were 683 patients waiting on trolleys with the INMO describing the 'predictable' Bank Holiday surge as 'incredibly dangerous'.

Local hospitals are under severe pressure following a busy Bank Holiday weekend. As of this morning, there were 35 patients on trolleys at Sligo University Hospital including 13 in the emergency department. Meanwhile, there were 23 people waiting for a bed at Our Lady of Lourdes Drogheda, and 19 at Portiuncula Hospital.

Elsewhere, there were 6 people on trolleys at Cavan General Hospital, 2 at Navan and 1 at the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar. Nationally, there were 683 patients waiting on trolleys with the INMO describing the 'predictable' Bank Holiday surge as 'incredibly dangerous'. University Hospital Limerick remains the most over-crowded in the country, with 138 patients on trolleys - followed by Cork University Hospital with 58.
