Local Gardaí crack down on drink and drug driving

Gardaí made arrests in Leitrim and Longford over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

Local Gardaí are cracking down on motorists who drive under the influence of drink or drugs. Two motorists were arrested over the weekend for suspected drink and drug driving in Longford and Leitrim. Gardaí in Longford had initially stopped a motorist for speeding and discovered the young learner driver was unaccompanied in the vehicle. He had no valid NCT, tax or Learner plates on display. He proceeded to fail a roadside alcohol breathalyser and also tested positive for cocaine in a roadside drug test. Gardaí have since confirmed they arrested the driver and seized the vehicle.

Meanwhile, a motorist was stopped for driving over the speed limit in County Leitrim. Leitrim Roads Policing Unit observed a car traveling at 91kph in a 50 zone. Upon testing the individual, the driver was found positive for cocaine and arrested.
