Local Fine Gael TD opts out of elections over increasing toxicity in politics

The Galway native said the public scrutiny of politicians has gone beyond the norm and his own family has suffered.

An East Galway TD says increasing toxicity in politics has lead to his decision not to run in the next General Election.
Ciarán Cannon became the tenth Fine Gael TD to opt out yesterday citing abuse on social media as a major factor.
Deputy Cannon was first elected to Dáil Éireann in 2011 but admitted his 'heart just wouldn't be in' another term.

The Galway native said the public scrutiny of politicians has gone beyond the norm and his own family has suffered.
