A new Longford based project will see thousands of litres of paint saved from incineration each year.

The Re-used Paint initiative by the revamp3r store at the EDI Centre is being officially launched today by Minister Pippa Hackett.

From today revamp will stock non-hazardous, water based paints for internal use on walls and ceilings in a range of colours.

Store Manager Enda McManus has been explaining the process which reduces paint disposal's impact on the environment.

'We go through paint that has been left in by customers for waste, we pick what we think we can use, bring it back to the store here, it's processed and then we can mix colours after that.

I suppose we have a paint technician who is the quality control.

Paint is considered hazardous waste so currently it goes to be incinerated in Germany.

The paint we take from the amenity sites saves that incineration so you're reducing carbon emission and it's more cost effect for the user.'
