Local fire services are dealing with a number of fires in the west Roscommon area this evening. It follows the widespread destruction of forestry and boglands near Gorthaganny earlier this week. Roscommon Fire Service is reporting further fires near Frenchpark and Breedogue while crews have also deployed to Boyle and Gorthaganny.
Chief Fire Officer John Keane says firefighters from Elphin, Boyle, Carrick-on-Shannon, Ballaghaderreen and Ballyhaunis are involved. He says crews are busy this afternoon with a number of incidents:
