Local councillor says peat removal will damage local roads

Cllr Tom Crosby claims Bord na Móna has sold over 80,000 tonnes of peat to a company in County Tyrone.

A Roscommon councillor has said the removal of peat from a Bord na Móna bog could have a detrimental impact on local roads.

Cllr Tom Crosby claims Bord na Móna has sold over 80,000 tonnes of peat to a company in County Tyrone.

He said workers from Evergreen Horticulture are currently preparing to take the peat to Northern Ireland and called for a rethink on its method of transport.

The Independent councillor has urged Bord na Móna and Evergreen to utilise the rail network to prevent damage to local road infrastructure.
