A local councillor has outlined her surprise at her election as vice president of the Fianna Fáil party. Cllr Uruemu Adejinmi's election was confirmed at the party's Ard Fheis over the weekend.
Born in Nigeria, Cllr Adejinmi was co-opted onto Longford County Council in 2020 and became Ireland's first black female mayor in 2021. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, she described the process which took place:
