Several of his passions were remembered at his funeral - including his family, literature, the Irish language, the GAA and politics.

Des Guckian's son has remembered his dad as someone who championed the 'ordinary man' at his funeral Mass in Annaduff today.

He died last week after a short illness, while aged in his late 70s.

He was a long-serving teacher in St Mel's College in Longford town and was a Leitrim councillor for 11 years.

Several of his passions were remembered at his funeral - including his family, literature, the Irish language, the GAA and politics.

Fr Frank Garvey worked alongside him for several years in St Mel's College - he remembered him fondly at the funeral Mass:
