Up to 2,000 people have attended a massive protest in Ballinasloe this afternoon.
They were protesting about the 'downgrading' of maternity services at Portiuncula University Hospital, after it was announced last month that no high-risk mothers can be seen in the unit anymore.
Today's demonstration was arranged by the Portiuncula Maternity Alliance.
People from counties throughout the region marched from the Fair Green car park to Portiuncula University Hospital.
They repeatedly chanted 'care can't wait - reinstate' as they marched down the road.
Several mothers attended the protest and spoke about their opposition to the 'downgrading' of the unit.
