Millions have paid tribute to the late pontiff since the news was announced by the Vatican, which will convene to appoint a new pope in the coming days.

A local parish priest has commended the term of Pope Francis for his inclusion of "people who had been ignored by previous papacies."
Pope Francis passed away today at the age of 88 following his battle with pneumonia and "complex" health conditions.
