A local Independent councillor has warned the Occupied Territories Bill could have serious economic consequences for Ireland -- if it is passed.
Councillor Tom Crosby has been speaking following his meeting with Minister Jack Chambers at the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon.
The Occupied Territories Bill is a proposed law that would ban trade between Ireland and Israel's illegal settlements in the West Bank.
The Tarmonbarry councillor highlighted that trade from the occupied territories into Ireland is worth around €240,000, which he has likened to the turnover of a 'small village restaurant.'
He says the passing of this bill could risk major U.S. companies to pull out of Ireland and jeopardise thousands of jobs here.
Councillor Tom Crosby believes the bill would have little impact on the war, and says our economy must be protected at all costs.
