The Bishop of Elphin and Achonry said Pope Francis "challenged us to think through what it means to be Christians."
The Argentine-born pontiff passed away this morning at 7:35am following his battle with pneumonia and his failing health conditions.
On February 14th, Francis was admitted to hospital for treatment of bronchitis, where he was later diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia.
The late pontiff remained in a critical condition after a "prolonged respiratory crisis," which then developed into an "initial, mild" kidney failure.
He appeared before thousands of well-wishers to give his Easter blessing yesterday, in his first significant appearance since his illness.
