Leo Varadkar is due to announce this afternoon that he is to step down as Taoiseach and Fine Gael leader. He is set to make the announcement outside Government buildings this afternoon.
Mr. Varadkar assumed the office of Taoiseach in June of 2017 and has been a Fine Gael TD for the Dublin West constituency since 2007. The Cabinet met this morning for the first time since the defeat of the referendum and were alerted to expect the announcement following the meeting.
