A Leitrim community has rallied to provide funding for a specialised quad bike to for a young boy diagnosed with a rare disorder.
Over €29,000 has so far been raised for eight-year-old Michael Barry to enable him to continue helping on the family farm.
Micheal, a son of Leitrim councillor Brendan Barry and his wife Nicola, was born with a rare genetic deletion syndrome.
The deletion leads to the co-occurrence of several related genetic disorders, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), congenital adrenal hypoplasia (CAH), and glycerol kinase deficiency (GKD).
Michael's father, Sinn Féin councillor Brendan Barry says the specialised quad would allow his son to accompany him while farming his land near Drumshanbo.
