Leitrim's Des Guckian has decided not to resign from the council, after threatening to do so during the summer.
In July, he said he was considering standing down, less than a month after being re-elected in the local elections.
The Independent claims the new council coalition, involving Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and four other Independents, is behaving in an undemocratic way,
But he says he won't be standing aside as a councillor for the Carrick-on-Shannon local electoral area.
