An Athlone nursing home has received a largely positive report from the health watchdog.
An unannounced inspection of Retreat Nursing Home, was carried out in August, the details of which have been published today.
Inspectors found that residents were treated with warmth and respect, and described the overall atmosphere of the home as calm, friendly and caring.
Staff were commended for their kindness, their knowledge of residents' needs, and the positive relationships they had built with families.
The home itself was noted to be clean, comfortable, and well maintained - contributing to a strong sense of community among residents.
However, the report also highlighted several areas of concern.
Inspectors identified repeat issues around the accuracy of medication records, as well as inconsistencies in the review and updating of care plans.
They also found that systems for monitoring quality and safety were not operating effectively, pointing to weaknesses in overall governance and management oversight.
HIQA said that while residents continue to receive good day-to-day care, stronger leadership and clearer accountability are needed to sustain improvements.
