Large crowds are set to descend on Athlone today for a rally against the EU's proposed Mercosur trade deal with countries in South America.
The event is being organised by Independent Ireland politicians and supported by national farming bodies.
It follows the EU's approval of the trade deal, which would open the European market to almost a hundred thousand tonnes of beef a year.
