Fire brigades from Ballaghaderreen, Charlestown and Tubbercurry battled the blaze for several hours – to save forestry and houses.

A large bog fire, which is thought to have been started deliberately, broke out in Ballaghaderreen last night.

It started in the townland of Islandmore, near the Mayo border, at around 8 o’clock.

Fire brigades from Ballaghaderreen, Charlestown and Tubbercurry battled the blaze for several hours – to save forestry and houses.

It was eventually put out after midnight.
