A lack of taxis in rural towns and villages across Leitrim is having a negative impact on the night-time economy.
That's according to Councillor Sean McGowan who's calling on the Department of Transport and Local Link to look at the possibility of rolling out an evening service on a pilot basis
He says a timetable system would need to be needed but believes it would be of huge benefit to local pubs and restaurants.
Speaking to Shannonside FM the Dromod native says there's a particular problem at weekends:
''You take my own village there, Dromad and Rooskey just up the road.
It's nearly impossible to get a taxi.
It's certainly something that should be looked at.
I would hope that the local link office and the department of transport would consider it.
It would be a huge boost to local towns and their pubs and restaurants.''
