The new Chairman of the Ballymahon Municipal District in Longford says the Just Transition project will be his main priority for the coming year.
Fine Gael councillor Colm Murray says while there are a number of important issues in the south Longford area the most immediate, and the one with the longest term impact will be the closure of the power station at Lanesboro and the suspension of peat harvesting on surrounding boglands.
He says he want's the local authority to keep a close eye on applications for funds to help create new jobs under Just Transition.
