Today marks the 20th anniversary of the death of John McGahern at the age of 71.
The local writer is best known for his acclaimed novel Amongst Women and That They May Face the Rising Sun.
He was described by The Guardian newspaper as "arguably the most important Irish novelist since Samuel Beckett".
He was born in Dublin but lived in Cootehall, Co Roscommon, and Co Leitrim for most of his life.
