A Longford senator is calling on the county council to develop its new civic headquarters at a vacant shopping centre in the town.
The derelict Longford Town Centre has been placed back on the market with a 3 million euro asking price, despite costing an estimated 25 million euro to develop.
It was completed in 2009 by developer Bernard McNamara and has remained unused for 17 years.
Current owners Omniplex Cinema Group had planned a redevelopment including retail, dining and cinema space, but those plans stalled during the pandemic.
However, local senator Joe Flaherty says online shopping is taking over and there would be no point in turning it into a retail space:
