A local Minister says Jim Gavin's withdrawal from the Presidential Election is 'highly embarrassing' for Fianna Fáil.
Longford-Westmeath TD Robert Troy apologised to local members of the party but backed Micheal Martin to continue as party leader.
He says a collective decision will be made as to whether to support either Heather Humphreys or Catherine Connolly.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, he said his preference would be for Humphreys.
