Irish slaughterhouses operate to high standards - Department of Agriculture

Officials say alleged issues with the slaughter of horses in England don’t happen in Ireland.

A BBC panorama programme broadcast last night found thousands of former racehorses have been slaughtered in England since 2019.

It said a majority of these were trained in Ireland.

The programme also claimed there were animal welfare issues with how the horses were slaughtered.

Michael Sheehan from the Department of Agriculture says Irish slaughterhouses operate to high standards.
