An investigation is continuing over a suspected petrol bomb attack in Athlone. The incident happened in the Magazine Avenue area of Battery Heights area of the town in the early hours of Thursday morning. In a statement, Gardaí say that they along with fire service crews responded to a report of a fire at around 1am on Thursday.
The local fire service extinguished the blaze and no injuries have been reported at this time. Gardaí are appealing for information relating to the incident. Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the Battery Heights, Cherryfield Avenue, or Magazine Road areas of Athlone between 12.30am and 1.30am on Thursday morning is being asked to contact Athlone Garda Station.
