It's felt that the roll-out of double tracks would decrease rail journey times locally. Earlier this week, the chair of Irish Rail said the introduction of new fleets of trains will increase capacity across the national networks.
The All-Island Strategic Rail Review is a plan to increase connectivity by 2050 - which Irish Rail says it is committed to delivering. Local Councillor Seán McGowan believes the increase in number of tracks would be a gamechanger for the rail service here:
