The IFA says the OPW must manage the water levels on the River Shannon so that the Shannon callows are not under threat at this time of year.
IFA Connacht Chairman Pat Murphy says thousands of acres on the Callows were under threat with very heavy rain over a week ago and if gates at Meelick Weir hadn't been opened vital winter fodder would have been totally lost.
He says July is a key month for farmers in the Callows and they want Minister Patrick O' Donovan to take immediate control of the situation to avoid substantial crop losses over the coming weeks.
