Hundreds of people gathered in Roscommon last night to watch the town's Christmas lights being switched on. The Christmas Lights committee recently confirmed they had installed a sustainable eco tree this year and wouldn't be cutting down natural trees from now on. The town's lights are a big attraction each year with Santa Claus himself having the honour of illuminating the town.
Last night's switching on ceremony marks the official start of Christmas in the county town as organisers now look ahead to the popular Christmas Festival next month. These people were getting into the festive spirit in Roscommon last night:
