Hundreds of people attended an event to remember GAA legend John O'Mahony in Ballaghaderreen last night.
It was hosted by RTE's Gaelic Games correspondent, Marty Morrissey, in St Nathy's College.
The large crowd was enthralled by a three-and-a-half hour event that focused on the life and times of O'Mahony, who lived in Ballaghaderreen for many years and is from nearby Kilmovee.
He managed Galway to All-Ireland glory in 1998 and 2001, and Leitrim to a historic Connacht title in 1994, during a glittering managerial career. He died 13 months ago, at the age of 71, after twice battling cancer.
There were two panel discussions last night, with the first focusing solely on O'Mahony's legacy. His friend Martin Carney, a former Mayo footballer and long-time analyst, was joined on stage by Leitrim GAA legend Declan Darcy, Roscommon great Fergal O'Donnell and former Galway star and current manager Padraic Joyce.
The second panel discussion saw the guests focus on current GAA matters, while also reflecting on O'Mahony's greatness. This star-studded panel involved Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney, Kerry great Kieran Donaghy, current Galway footballer John Maher, current Mayo and Ballaghaderreen footballer David McBrien and Newstalk's GAA correspondent, Tommy Rooney.
