The HSE is holding free walk in flu vaccination clinics for children in Leitrim and Roscommon. HSE West and North West says they're designed to make vaccinations more accessible for families during the festive season. The Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine is a nasal spray administered into each nostril. The HSE says it's quick and painless and offers effective protection against winter flu for those aged between 2 and 17. Families can avail of this service from at Roscommon University Hospital and HSE Community Services in Carrick on Shannon. The Roscommon clinic takes place from 11am to 3pm on Tuesday, December 30th. The Leitrim clinics take place on Tuesday, December 30th from 10am to 2pm and on Friday, January 2nd from 10am to 2pm. A separate walk in clinic will also be held on December 30th and January 2nd at Markievicz House in Sligo from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
All clinics are subject to vaccine supply and people are advised to check the HSE website for the latest clinic updates before attending. The HSE is encouraging as many parents as possible to bring their children to the clinics. Dr Aine McNamara, Regional Director of Public Health says flu can be a serious illness for children and those around them. She says vaccination will protect both them and more vulnerable members of the family such as grandparents and small babies.
