HSE regional chief says antenatal care at Portiuncula is 'safe'

It comes after today's announcement that women with 'higher risk' pregnancies will have their care moved to other hospitals.

The HSE's Regional Executive Officer says antenatal care at Portiuncula University Hospital is safe. It comes after today's announcement that women with 'higher risk' pregnancies will have their care moved to other hospitals. Tony Canavan was speaking following a number of reviews into maternity care at the Ballinasloe hospital. Those reviews were announced after concerns were raised around nine deliveries since 2023, including two stillbirths.

According to Saolta, an implementation team is being set up to futher progress the recommendations raised. Speaking to Dan Dooner this evening, Tony Canavan says the HSE has been in contact with those receiving maternity care at Portiuncula University Hospital:
