The HSE has issued an urgent alert after commuters traveling on a local rail route may have been exposed to measles.
A suspect case of the disease has been notified to the Department of Public Health and is currently under investigation.
The HSE has stated that members of the public travelling on the Dublin Connolly to Sligo Train on Friday evening the 28th of March may have been exposed.
The service left Dublin at 5.05 on Friday evening with the potential case located in Carriage D.
The service serves Mullingar, Edgesworthtown, Longford, Dromod, Carrick on Shannon and Boyle.
The HSE is asking any members of the public who are not immune to the disease and who were on the service to be aware of the signs and symptoms of the condition for 21 days.
Measles is a highly infectious disease that can cause serious complications, particularly in children under one year of age, pregnant women, and the immunosuppressed.
According to the HSE, those who travelled on this train for 15 minutes or more should watch out for symptoms including sore red eyes, temperature, rash and cold like symptoms.
Those who develop these symptoms are asked to seek medical advice and inform healthcare facilities of any attendance ahead of time.
