It follows seven months of significantly below-average rainfall, with reservoirs like Lough Owel and Lough Bane now at their lowest levels in decades.

Uisce Éireann has announced a six-week hosepipe ban in parts of Westmeath, Meath and Donegal due to historically low water levels.

From next Tuesday, the Water Conservation Order will affect Mullingar, Milford, and the Kells-Oldcastle areas.

It follows seven months of significantly below-average rainfall, with reservoirs like Lough Owel and Lough Bane now at their lowest levels in decades.
