Hopes St. Brigid's Day holiday to rekindle local interest in ancient history

The new bank Holiday will take effect on the feast day from 2023 onward.

The government's decision to appoint a new Bank Holiday to celebrate St Brigid's Day should mean a good rekindling of interest in the saint.

That's according to Mike Mc Carthy of the Rathcroghan Heritage and Visitors centre in Roscommon.

Speaking on the Let's Talk show this afternoon, he says there's been a resurgence of interest in old customs and folklore associated with our past over recent years.
